Welcome to On Our Way Travel

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

My interest in researching holidays was borne out of necessity. I had two small children and a lowish income. My mum and dad had prioritised holidays – Santa Susana 1973!!!! and I wanted to do the same. My two constraints were time and money. My first job was a researcher and so I put those skills to the test – and it worked. In 2005 we had a two week family holiday in the south of France for £1000 for a family of four and no we did not not take our own tents.

My budget limited me to one holiday a year but I wanted to see so many places so we got brave and moved on to the two centre holiday – often a city followed by the coast, again usually at around £1200 for two weeks. We covered France, Spain, Switzerland.

What I realised was I loved the research almost as much as the holiday itself. I have not yet been to Croatia but my research was extensive. I used to joke with a friend at work ‘dubrovnik – oh yeah I’ve been there’ as I had done so much research and planning I really felt like I had been on the holiday. I helped friends, I loved talking about places and planning itineraries with them.

And for years I’ve talked about putting ideas in print but time has never quite allowed me. Now after a very personal crisis I have a little bit of time so here goes, ‘On Our Way Travel’ is my chance to share with you some great holiday ideas and also some of the resources and templates I have developed around itineraries and budgets so if you are that way inclined you can have a go at this yourself.

To keep my interest and yours I am going to share once a week a new holiday idea of the week. This will be based on my extensive research. I am home bound at the moment so these will be ideas for places I haven’t been to (yet) but I hope the research saves you both time and money.
